5001 is shown approaching Greenboro Station on Feb. 23, 2009.  These buses are equipped with a Cummins ISB engine coupled to a BAE Hybridrive series hybrid system using lithium-ion batteries.  Orion offered the batteries because of reliability issues with the lead-acid batteries used on hybrid buses in Toronto and New York.

5002 is the second of two pilot buses delivered to OC Transpo in advance of an order for 177 Orion VII NG hybrid buses to be delivered in 2009 and 2010.  5003 entered service in June 2009 and delivery of the remaining 94 buses of the first part of the order began in late July.  This photo was taken at St. Laurent Station on Dec. 9, 2008, two days before a lengthy transit strike stopped all bus service in Ottawa for more than two months.

1202 is shown on a training run at Lebreton Station on Feb. 23, 2009.  After the end of the bus strike, the buses were used solely to train drivers for a few weeks so they could learn to handle the extra-large vehicles.

1202 was spotted again at Lebreton Station on Feb. 23, 2009.  These buses entered service in late March 2009 and are currently in service on heavily used long-distance bus routes.
