Bus service in Quebec City, population 491,000, is provided by the Réseau de transport de la Capitale, formerly known as the STCUQ.  The RTC operates a fleet of about 470 buses, consisting mostly of NovaBus Classic and low-floor LFS and LFS articulated buses, along with some small electric buses for Ecolobus service in the old city.  There are four levels of bus service in Quebec City: the Métrobus cross-regional service, which relies on reserved bus lanes to provide speedy service between major destinations throughout the city; leBus, which covers the local routes; the eXpress, which provides quick peak-period service from major employment areas in central Quebec City and Ste-Foy to the suburbs; and the écolobus, which is a low-priced service that operates in the old Quebec, historic Lower Town and Parliament Hill districts using small electric buses.
