Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit provides bus service in Ithaca and throughout Tompkins County, using a fleet of 46 buses along with an additional 10 buses operated under contract with Tioga Transport to provide service on certain rural routes.  The TCAT fleet consists mainly of Orion I, NovaBus RTS and LFS, and New Flyer D40LF buses.  The main centre-town transfer point is at Ithaca Commons, but there are nine routes serving Cornell University and fifteen others connecting the Ivy League school with the rest of the county.  Rural communities served by TCAT include Dryden, Groton, Lansing, Newfield and Trumansburg, and there is also service to a number of communities in Tioga County to the east of Ithaca.
