The
Ottawa-Gatineau region is the fourth-largest urban area in Canada, with a
population of just over 1.1 million people.
The area made up of three different municipalities: the City of Ottawa, Ontario;
the City of Gatineau, Quebec; and the rural MRC des Collines
de l’Outaouais, also in Quebec. The urban area of Ottawa is served by OC Transpo, while Gatineau is served by the Société de transport de l’Outaouais,
or STO. OC Transpo
and STO service overlaps in the downtown cores of both cities, especially along
Rideau and Wellington Streets in Ottawa, and along boul. Maisonneuve
and rue Laurier in Gatineau. In
addition, there are several charter bus companies providing service in the
counties surrounding the region. Click
